The Houston Heights

The Houston Heights is an exciting neighborhood of 3,691 homes in Houston Texas, located North of the I-10 highway, South of Loop 610 and West of Highway 45 that has undergone significant property appreciation and development over the past decade.
Location
The Houston Heights is located just northwest of Downtown Houston.  The Heights boarders Highway I-10 on the South, 610 on the North, 45 on the East and Shepard on the West. Neighborhoods surrounding the Heights, include: Garden Oaks, Timbergrove, Camp Logan, Crestwood, and Memorial Park / Rice Military,  Montrose, River Oaks and Memorial are also just moments away.  The Heights are located in the 77008 zip code.

History
The Houston Heights' history began at the end of the 19th century. When Houston Heights was founded in 1891, it was a street-car suburb of Houston. It had its own local government until the City of Houston annexed the neighborhood in 1919.
The Heights have an enforced deed restriction to keep the neighborhood's character and charm.  That historic influence gives the exciting community of Houston Heights many advantages over other neighborhoods in town. Known for its architectural distinction, small-town character, and proximity to Downtown Houston, The Houston Heights is an enchanting step back into yester-years.

The Heights is very much like a small town in the middle of a big city. Heights Boulevard, the main artery through the area, serves as a living photograph of "how it used to be," featuring turn-of-the-century homes and privately maintained parks. From the Woodland Heights on the Southeast side of the Heights, you can see the downtown skyline from many of the area's 2nd stories.

Other outstanding features of the Houston Heights include the Heights Playground, completely designed, funded, and constructed by the people of the community; its unique 19th street historic business district; educational opportunities that include preschool, parochial schools as well as outstanding public schools; a variety of annual events, such as the Heights Garage Sale, Historic Heights Home and Garden Tour, Heights Fun Run, Heights Festival, and Christmas in the Heights; and warm friendly people who keep that small-town feeling alive. The Heights is a truly a unique old neighborhood that is now a wonderful place to call home in the heart of the city.

Heights Housing Options

Priced very reasonably compared to some of the other Houston neighborhoods, Houston Heights can be a great place for starter homes. Or, should you be ready for your dream home, Houston Heights has that, too!
Available homes vary from original bungalows to impressive new construction, many which actually mirror the architecture of those grand Victorian mansions from times past. This diversity is reflected in home prices that range from below $100,000 to over $1 million.

With a great location and charming atmosphere, Houston Heights offers a family-oriented lifestyle in the heart of Houston's Inner Loop. Tree-lined streets, great schools, historic landmarks, eclectic shops, restaurants and galleries create an allure that many Houston-area homebuyers can't resist. Home seekers will find real estate options that consist of single-family homes, condominiums, townhouses and available residential land as well. The architecture varies from modern homes to Craftsman bungalows and Victorians. Neighborhoods are dotted with gorgeous churches, 37 in total, dating in origin back to 1893.

The Heights is bordered by Interstates 610 and 10, making transportation into and out of the community quite manageable. Downtown Houston is conveniently only minutes away, so those taking advantage of the employment opportunities of the city can easily commute. Five neighborhood parks in the Heights provide facilities for walking, jogging, swimming and playing basketball, volleyball and soccer and there is very popular jogging trail in the esplanade of Heights Boulevard. Community groups are popular, particularly those that promote the preservation of Houston Heights' history and maintenance of neighborhood landmarks. Public schooling in the community is managed by the Houston Independent School District. There are 13 elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school (Reagan Senior High currently undergoing an $80 million renovation) serving the Houston Heights area.

Community amenities include year-round events, such as Historic Heights First Saturday Sale, plus the Heights Library, HITS Theatre Company, Paul Carr jogging trail and a community center. The Heights is also a hot spot for boutique and antique shopping.
